Meet Our Team

Stephen R. Phillips, CIC
President & Commercial Account Executive

Steve started working part time at the Agency in 1975. At the age of 16 he began doing home inspections with a 100 foot measuring tape and a black & white Polaroid camera, thus beginning his insurance career. Steve took a full-time position in October 1980 as an agent, and is the son of William Phillips, Jr. (see history). Steve has held the title of President since 1986.
Steve has maintained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) degree since 1994. He remains active in the community and within the insurance industry. The agency supports local events, including the Back to the Bricks Car Show in Flint. Steve is the past President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Genesee County (years 1992-1993 and 2012-2013). He has also received the Michigan Association of Insurance Agents' Capitol Award for the work he did during his term on the MAIA legislative committee. Since 2005 Steve has held different positions on the Mi Future Board, developing programs that promote the insurance industry, and encourage youth to choose insurance as a career path.
Steve has been married to his lovely wife, Marlene, since 1983. They enjoy antiquing and spending time at their cottage in Chippewa Lake, MI with their growing family. Together Steve & Marlene have five children, two of which work in the agency, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law. Steve's interests and hobbies consist of,  Bass and Pike fishing, duck hunting, other water sports, and collecting vintage motorcycles, (Hodaka's and Honda MR50's). He also enjoys just "puttering" around his barn and any physical work, such as yard work.

Robert Darnton
Life, Health, Long-Term Care, & Disability Specialist

Bob was born and raised here in Flint, MI. He is a graduate of both Flint Central High School and Albion College. He continues to work toward his CLU, ChFC designation. He has been married to his wife Rita for 32 years and have four children.

Bob started his career in Life and Health sales in 1981. He joined W.J. Phillips, Inc. in 1990, where he continued to focus on Life, Health, and Retirement Savings products. Bob is appointed with Auto-Owners, Jackson National, and other carriers for life, fixed annuity, disability, and long-term care insurance. He represents Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, HealthPlus of Michigan, Health Alliance Plan (HAP), and Assurant for individual and group health insurance.

When Bob is not in the office, he enjoys traveling with Rita, reading, and trout fishing. He recently had a short story published in Michigan Trout Magazine.

Daniel J. O'Dea
Commercial Account Executive

Daniel attended Central Michigan University, accumulating an associates equivalency degree in marketing. In April of 1999 Daniel obtained his Property & Casualty license, and was appointed with AAA as a sales and service agent. After a few years at AAA, Daniel decided to join the team at W.J. Phillips, Inc., serving the agency's business customers. He has acquired over 120 hours of State of Michigan continued education credits in Property & Casualty insurance. 

Daniel is currently serving as Vice President of a local business networking group, and has won several outstanding team performance awards. He passionately enjoys educating business owners on a variety of insurance products such as General Liability, Property coverages, Equipment Breakdown, Contractors Equipment coverages, Commercial Auto/Fleet policies, Commercial Umbrellas, and Workers Compensation policies. 

Daniel is known for his honesty and down to earth teaching style. His customers appreciate his help in understanding their coverages, and taking control of their premiums. Daniel also offers risk management tools such as sample employment handbooks and industry specific safety manuals. Chris Mosholder, CISR, CIC
Commercial Lines Service

Chris started her insurance career with Phillips Insurance agency in 1987 as a personal lines customer service representative.  In 1989 she acquired her insurance agents license, and started classes for the Certified Insurance Service Representative designation.  Chris acquired her CISR designation in 1994.  She then began to help with commercial lines, and went to classes to obtain her Certified Insurance Counselor designation.   She obtained the CIC designation in 2010, and now works mainly with the agency's commercial customers. She enjoys helping her clients with their insurance needs.

Deborah Sipes, CISR
Personal Lines Service

In 2006 I started working at the Phillips Agency as a customer service representative.  I received my insurance agents license in May of 2007 and started my CISR designation which I earned in September of 2009.  I mainly do personal lines customer service and help with commercial lines.  I enjoy my work, especially all the people that I have had the opportunity to help and get to know. Have questions regarding your personal insurance coverage? Joshua M. Phillips, CISR
Personal Account Executive

Josh is married to his lovely wife, Melissa Phillips. He began working at W.J. Phillips, Inc. in 2010, and within a year received his producers license. As his desire to learn more about insurance grew, he decided to pursue the CISR industry designation. Within a year he was able to earn the CISR designation. He is approaching his third year with the agency and is very excited about it.

Josh & his wife love to travel when they get the chance, and when they're not traveling they love to enjoy films from their movie library (a collection of approximately 2,000 films). Josh loves working with personal lines insurance because he has the opportunity to meet and talk with new people on a daily basis. He enjoys getting to know each of his customers on a personal level, and meeting their insurance coverage needs. 

Zachery S. Phillips
Commercial Account Executive

Zach graduated from The University of Michigan with "high distinction", obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Finance. After graduating, he left the agency and moved to Texas. In Texas Zach served as the office manager for a non-profit organization and worked part-time in the commercial real estate industry. After a short time he returned to Michigan and was hired as a Personal Banker for JPMorgan Chase, where he earned his Series 6, Series 63, and life insurance licenses. Shortly after earning the licenses, he became a Small Business Specialist, giving him excellent experience in serving the financial needs of business owners. Since joining the agency Zach has obtained his Property & Casualty license and has drawn on his past experience to serve the needs of the agency's business clientele.

When Zach is not working he enjoys writing music, traveling, windsurfing, wake boarding, water skiing, fishing, hunting,  snowboarding, and riding motorcycles. He also spends time working with a non-profit organization he founded in February 2012, called Pursue Hope International. Pursue Hope develops and distributes video-based community development schools that are used in developing countries around the world.
