BACKGROUND
The W. J. Phillips Inc. was established in 1917, when William J. Phillips
Sr. left the Phillips family farm in Davison, Michigan, to become the second agent appointed by Auto-Owners Insurance
Company. William Phillips built a successful Independent Agency and enjoyed great success
and respect in the Flint area.
After World War II both of William’s sons, Bill, Jr. and James E. Phillips, joined the agency.
The brothers bought the agency in 1954 and William retired. Bill's son, Stephen joined the family agency in 1980.
W. J. Phillips Agency is one of the oldest Independent Agencies in the Flint area and is highly
respected in the business community and among its peers.
TYPE OF AGENCY
W. J. Phillips Inc. has a healthy mix of business. This consists of
45% personal lines and 55% commercial lines.
The agency in addition to its property and casualty operations has a full time life, health and
long term care, disability, group health and employee benefits producer.
We endeavor to write your entire account with one carrier, rather than splitting the account
between carriers. Over the years we have found it is always better to put
our customers interest
first.
